Young Dems across the state now gearing up for training

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indiana Young Democrats (IYD) announced today that Former State Representative and Candidate for Indiana’s 5th Congressional District Christina Hale will speak at the 2020 Indiana Young Democrats Virtual State Convention on June 20th.

Christina Hale is a nonprofit leader and former State Representative of Indiana’s 87th District. After raising her son as a single mother while attending Purdue University, Christina Hale turned to public service. She is focused on lowering health care costs, preparing children for the job market, and solving problems for Hoosier families. This week, Hale won the Democratic primary and will face State Sen. Victoria Spartz in the November election. Hale was the 2016 Democratic lieutenant governor nominee, and she has already raised more than $1 million.

“Our Indiana Young Democrats continue to make it happen as they grow and amplify their efforts. I’m thrilled to join them at their virtual convention,” said Hale. “Our democracy works best when all voices are heard, and it’s critical that young Hoosiers speak up and participate in the process. I’m proud of the Indiana Young Democrats for standing up to make a difference in their communities.”

“We are thrilled to announce that Christina Hale will join us later this month, as young Democratic Hoosiers gather to train and hear from game-changers making a difference in our state,” said Arielle Brandy, President of Indiana Young Democrats. “Christina Hale’s primary victory sets a historic mark for Latina women in this state, especially mothers aspiring to run for higher office. It shows that there is no glass ceiling that is too high to shatter and that Hoosiers are ready for bold change in the 5th Congressional district.”

Joining Hale as a moderator is state Rep. Karlee Macer. Macer has served in the Indiana House since 2013 and serves as the assistant Democratic leader in the Indiana House of Representatives and is a ranking Democrat on the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee.

“The young Dems are the lifeblood of our party,” said Macer. “Your diversity, values and pursuit of a better future for us all is what pushes our party to do better and be better. Young Democrats are not just the leaders we’ll look to in the future, you’re the leaders we look to now.”

The Indiana Young Democrats are bringing speakers and panelists from across Indiana and even working with national partners to hold this virtual event June 20th. Over 100 attendees are expected, with Christina Hale being one of a robust line-up of high-profile speakers and trainings to be announced in the coming weeks.

“After hosting the Young Democrats of America National Convention last year, the Indiana Young Democrats are ready to host the 2020 IYD State Convention for the first time virtually and bring the same level of organizing to show the Indiana GOP and Mike Pence that young Democrats are making headway in their own backyard,” said James Wells, Vice President of Indiana Young Democrats.

IYD is the premier youth-led grassroots political organization in the state of Indiana. As the official youth caucus of the Indiana Democratic Party, IYD mobilizes young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to participate in the electoral process, influence elections, promote the ideals of the Democratic Party, and develop the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders on local, state, and national levels.
