The goal of the Black Caucus is to amplify Black democratic voices in Indiana, expand on our political power, and advocate for issues that are vital to us, our family, friends, and neighbors. From city halls, county commissioners, councilors, trustees, mayors, and state legislators — black people are essential to the growth and progress of the Indiana Democratic Party and within the Indiana General Assembly. By joining the IYD Black Caucus, you will play a pivotal in shaping a brighter future for Black Dem in Indiana.
We have seen the seismic, revolutionary change that comes from the activism of Black women. Our Black History Month t-shirt, made by Black-owned #317GetAGrip in Indianapolis, will honor and touch on the powerful women in our state — past, and present.
The Indiana Young Democrats Black Caucus aims to activate and empower young Black leaders to engage in the democratic process through education, advocacy, and activism in order to strengthen our influence in politics and policies that affect our lives.
Our vision is to increase the representation of Black people within IYD and Indiana Democratic politics.
Our goals for this caucus are to support and elect candidates at the local, state, and federal levels of government who will advocate the values of the IYDBC. And to contribute to the growth and influence of young Black people by educating and registering voters, developing leadership, contributing to the development of the IYDBC platform, and in other ways as supported by the IYDBC membership.
